A lot of people give up their college dreams because they're not willing to compromise on their expectations. Colleges are a lot like cars - there are colleges that you and I can afford, and colleges that are only really feasible for rich people, scholarship winners, and daring people who are willing to borrow way too much that's my polite term for them.

Students who are willing to accept what their budget allows them can find a college that they can afford. Students who have decided that they're too good for lower-cost schools are the bitter ones, who claim that college is too expensive, and an education should be free.

A more interesting subject for your speech would be addressing the topic of where the money would come from to make schools free. Someone has to pay for all the buildings and faculty and equipment and staff and cleaning people and laboratories, and all of that other good stuff.

Something tells me that the taxpayers of this country aren't lining up to sign up for a tax hike that will provide the schools with more tax dollars - so you must have another idea in mind.
